FIRST OF THE SCHMOHICANS

So, they wouldn't take no for an answer. My new colleagues at K103 in Kahnawake were not duped by my false humility, and refused to let me back out of my pledge to shave my head Mohawk-style. On my K103 debut this morning, I said I didn't want to disrespect the community by trivializing a cultural symbol. They said "Whatever, pal" and proceeded to shave the sides down to the nub while spiking the middle. Thanks to Alison from Kahkotsiio hair salon for making it respectable. She's a real pro, and when it comes to something of this nature, better a pro than a hobbyist.
Java, Paul and I had a great show (well, WE enjoyed ourselves, anyway) and are excited and encouraged by the listener response. Thanks for everybody who tuned in, and to the media, sponsors and friends who showed up for our post-debut launch party at Maddie's.
We're only one day in and it's already a great ride.

  1. It was a GREAT show...a refreshing change from the c**p that your previous station pumps out in the morning. I watched you getting your hair cut..your face was priceless when you realised they weren't joking. It's K103 in the morning for me from now on!

  3. I had never even heard of k103.7 'till now. I will definitaly check it out, since most radio around Montreal is pretty crappy.

  4. Congrats Ted. The other half and I listened in this morning, he was happy to hear your voice on the radio waves again. One problem though, I can't pick up the signal in my car :(

It's kind of wonky at home too, is there anything they can do to improve it?

  5. I must admit I never considered myself a fan...That is, until you left and things went downhill. I'd say that's the reason I like hearing you on the radio, because I never felt like you were trying to make people like you. As I was driving into school this morning, I happened to remember reading about your move to K103.7 in the Chateauguay local paper and decided to give it a listen. The show is great!

I'm really going to enjoy listening to 103.7 (which I had never listened to previously) on my drive to work during the summer. It will also be nice to finally get my traffic reports from a station that doesn't just forget about the Mercier Bridge, or falsely reports 5 minute delays as I sit in traffic for 25 minutes.

And now for the question I'm dying to ask; are migrating listeners from CHOM going to be able to hear 15 runs of Black Betty every morning?

  6. I agree with Marilyn, your face was priceless. I love the way you just went along with all of them and got the haircut. My grand-mother would call this grace under fire.My husband was over the moon saying "He's back!Ted is back!" He love your sense of humour.Good luck Birdman.

  8. Well, if hiring you was part of a K103 publicity stunt, it worked! Not only am I listening in the morning, I've got it on all day. The musical variety is really refreshing.
As for the mornings, I'm really enjoying listening to you, Paul and Java and I'm thrilled to hear Revisionist History, Don Scary and the crickets again.(Ah, the crickets.) I missed them after I stopped listening to CHOM a while back (the Dark Ages of "Ted, Kim and Kemp" when Ted was on vacation).
Keep having fun, and keeping let us eavesdrop every morning!

  10. Hey Ted,
Just wanted to drop a note saying that Regina and I enjoyed listening to the show so far this week... The video of you getting your head shaved was priceless. You're such a good sport... Was nice of TD to call in too...had to bring out the HAM radio antenna to be able to listen you at home...hopefully with the new revenue you're generating for them they can go to 10,000 watts for their signal...

    We wish you continued success...

  11. Congrats on your return, the show was fun!!! It's just too bad we have a hard time to tune the station, some spots around the Champlain bridge are difficult to pick up the signal... Other than that love the new do!!!

    Keep it up...

  14. Ted you're voice on the air is music to my ears!

The guys at K103.7 are new to me (well I never thought to browse that far on the radio!)

But they seem cool, I'm glad you are having a blast on the radio.

Keep being you and we will be listening! :D

    Long live the BirdMan!

  15. hey Ted, great to hear you again, love the show but something has to be done with the signal... i live in the east end and the signal is terrible but as i drive in to lasalle it gets stronger but i listen to the show anyways, hopefully all the straining to listen to the show through the static dosn't affect my ears as it would if i strained with my eyes to look at something blury... anyways great to have you back on the air... the bird man rocks....
